Research Interests
Paleoecology, natural history, peatland ecosystem ecology, vegetation dynamics

Current Projects
My research centers around combining contemporary ecology with paleoecological methods to evaluate drivers of ecological change. I integrate field-based techniques with analysis of sediments archives and spatial databases, primarily using the fossil remains of testate amoebae and zooplankton. Ongoing projects include Late-Holocene ecosystem changes of high-elevation Hawaiian peatlands and wet forests, biogeographical and functional trait distribution of conspicuous wetland microorganisms, and calibrating microscopist techniques for automated through-put imaging and machine learning.
