Research Interests
Forests form a patchwork of different vegetation types that change over time. My primary interest is applying paleoecological techniques at fine spatial scales (a few 100 meters to 10s of kilometers) to study the interaction of vegetation, climatic change, disturbance, and landscape features that influence this shifting mosaic.

Current Projects
I am involved in several projects in the Western Great Lakes region to study the effects of Holocene climate changes on forests growing on different soil types, in different hydrological positions on the landscape, and in patches surrounded by varying abundances of lakes and wetlands that limit the spread of fire.
